FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After winning the season opener last Saturday, the No. 24 Nova Southeastern University tennis team (1-0) will host the St. Thomas Bobcats Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Center.
When the two teams met last season, the Sharks rolled by the Bobcats in doubles play, only allowing seven total points combined in all three matches. NSU owns a perfect 4-0 record against St. Thomas.
“We plan to extend our winning streak against St. Thomas, and come out with a 5-0 record against the Bobcats,” head coach
Michael Coleman stated. “We cannot go on the courts and expect a win each time, we have to go out there and play hard.”
Last time out, the Sharks defeated State College of Florida 5-4 with three wins in singles action and two wins in doubles. Celebrating her Sharks singles debut with a two set victory,
Andrea Wise (Fr., Ashland, Ore.), defeated her opponent (6-2, 6-1), playing in the No. 5 spot. Playing in the No. 2 spot for doubles,
Austin Lavallii (Jr., Williamston, Mich.) and
Charlotte Cote (Fr., Montreal, Canada) recorded an 8-4 victory.
Last week, Coleman changed his usual lineup to see how some of his other players reacted on game day situations. This week, he will go back to his traditional team, which consists of senior
Dominique Wimmer (Guntramsdorf, Austria) in the No. 1 spot, freshman
Alexandra Johansson (Sydney, Australia) in the No. 2 spot, and Lavallii in the No. 3 spot, with Wimmer and Johannson playing No. 1 doubles.
The Sharks take the court next on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Tampa to open up Sunshine State Conference play at 10 a.m. at home.
